What is involved with a barn owl survey?
A barn owl survey involves inspecting a building, tree or any other feature, that could support nesting or roosting barn owls for evidence of barn owl activity i.e. pellets and feathers, as well as white wash on walls, tree trunks or on the ground.
Depending upon the impact of a project a habitat assessment to determine the suitability of the foraging and dispersal habitat may be needed. Observational surveys may also be carried out if there is a risk of barn owl being directly harmed by a project e.g. a wind turbine.
Once surveys are complete our ecologists will be able to provide you with a detailed report outlining your survey results, any identified impacts of your project and, if so, recommendations for mitigation.
