What is involved with a reptile survey?
An initial scoping survey of a site to see if there is potential for reptiles to be present can be carried out at any time of year. This involves an assessment of the site and surrounding habitat.
If there is potential for reptiles to be active on site then Phase 2 reptile surveys may be needed. These primarily consist of a reptile presence/likely absence survey where artificial reptile refugia are set out on site, with generally seven subsequent site visits made to search the refugia for reptiles or evidence of reptile presence. Additional site visits may be needed if an estimate of the reptile population size is required to complete the assessment.
Once the surveys are complete our ecologists will be able to provide you with a detailed report outlining the survey results and any identified impacts, with recommendations for mitigation, if necessary.
Our reptile survey page provides more detailed information regarding what is involved in carrying out a reptile survey.
All our reptile surveys are supervised/undertaken by an experienced ecologist who is a member of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM).
Please be aware that survey information is provided for general guidance only.
Every site is unique so please contact us to discuss your project and our experienced ecologists will advise on the most appropriate survey approach.
